‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it’. Never has a truer word been said by the legendary Ferris Bueller who infamously took a day off to explore the beautiful city of Chicago.

Located in northeastern Illinois on the southwestern shores of the freshwater Lake Michigan, Chicago has been the epicentre of several films and TV shows – and for good reason. From the aforementioned Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to the US version of Shameless, it’s never been easier to spot your favourite Chicago hangouts.

If popular culture isn’t your thing, then there’s plenty more to entice you to fly to the Windy City. We’re talking about breathtaking architecture, incredible food and then there’s the entertainment. This topped off with its idyllic lakeside location and friendly locals. Have we missed anything off the list?

Bold, innovative and exciting – Chicago loves to thrill and is continually pushing boundaries. Whether you favour deep-pan pizza and some of the finest steak on the East Coast or love unique gastronomical delights that are made for sharing on Instagram, when it comes to great foods, Chicago delivers!

Weather in the Windy City

The best time to visit Chicago is either between April and May or September and October. It’s still warm and there’s plenty to see and do. The weather in Chicago can be a tad fickle: winters can be beautiful but brutal, with blowing snow and ice. Summer can be steamy and winter cold and blustery (well, it’s not known as the Windy City for nothing!) so pick your holiday time wisely.

Discover the real Chicago

When it comes to food, Chicago is not just all about hot dogs and deep-dish pizzas, but we do recommend trying both whilst you are in the windy city. Tastebuds aside, if you are wanting to discover the real Chicago, we got (ball) game! Are you ready to lock things in Chicago style?

Innovative and historic, with green spaces and soaring skyscrapers, beautiful paintings and stirring street art, Chicago is full of heritage, transformation and of course, it’s certainly full of surprises. From following in the footsteps of Ferris Bueller to paving your own journey to the Windy City, how will you immerse yourself in everything that Chicago has to offer?

The culinary landscape of Chicago is as diverse as its nationalities. Sure you can try some of the typical ‘Chicago fare’, deep-pan pizza or perhaps some BBQ ribs, but what about trying some of the cuisines from the hundreds of restaurants that make up the exciting Chicago restaurant scene which includes everything from Burmese to Ethiopian?

Explore rich histories, awe-inspiring architecture and first-class food in a city that is full of opposites. From towering skyscrapers to miles of tranquil beaches and of course, the beautiful Lake Michigan which has the endless Chicago skyline looming behind it. Chicago has it all and it is little wonder that Sarah Bernhardt called it ‘the pulse of America’ – a visit to the Windy City is a life-affirming experience.
