Corfu Travel Guide

Corfu is the island equivalent of those people who just seem to excel at everything. Gorgeous weather, beautiful beaches, and inhabitants who have contributed as much to our global history and culture as any others in the world; the small island certainly packs a big punch, and they’ve been welcoming visitors for millennia, so they know how to make tourists feel welcome.

This outcrop in the Ionian Sea has always punched well above its weight, whether it be in terms of the ancient military conquests that made it so powerful, or the more modern-day image of it as a famous holiday destination. The latter was always likely to be the case, given the abundance of ancient ruins, stunning nature, and buzzing cultural centres. Even those just looking to have a bit of fun in the sun will be left feeling satisfied, given the number of bars and clubs on the island that deliver on great service and strong drinks. Yes, Corfu truly does have something for everyone: it’s simply up to you to find it.

Weather in Corfu

The weather in Corfu is as idyllic as one would expect for most of the year, and even in the winter months it tends to feel fairly warm as temperatures drop. That’s not to say you can wear a t shirt and shorts in December; more that you won’t require a massive jacket in case you want to go in the off season. Predictably, the temperature in summer tends to soar into the thirties quite easily, so make sure to pack some sun cream and drink plenty of water!

Discover the real Corfu

The Greeks are known for the propensity to overfeed, and it’s no different on the islands. There are a wide range of restaurants serving up the very best of Greek cuisine on Corfu, from local hole in the walls selling greasy yet delicious gyros to high end establishments serving refined recipes alongside top class wine. If you fancy a change, there are also a number of high-quality restaurants serving international cuisine on the island, so you’re bound to be satisfied.

History buff? Culture vulture? Beach bar hopper? Most tourist destinations will claim to cater to all of these people and more, but nobody has quite the range that Corfu does when it comes to things to see and do. The island is also small enough that it’s easy to get around, but large enough that you won’t ever run out of activities. Healthy types will also have their needs met, as there are a plethora of active pursuits available on the island and in the surrounding waters.

Tours and excursions are all well and good, but sometimes you want to get a real feel for somewhere and not just potter about the same areas most tourists do. No matter what you want to do on your holiday, we’ve got the low down on the very best places to scratch your itch, whether it be learning about the history of the island or scuba diving off the coast.

More of Greece

Expect a warm welcome on the Emerald Isle. Whether you’re wandering through the door of a local pub or taking a leisurely look at Ireland’s cultural offerings, the residents will be more than happy to while away a minute or ten with a chat. But you’ll have little time to linger. Rolling and rural hills put the Emerald in this Isle – and make inviting spots to explore. But, don’t discount the cities. Historic spots around almost every corner, more often than not accompanied by a catchyIrish lilt.
