Sun, sea, and the sort of views that make you fall in love with a place: Cancun is as gorgeous as it is fun. A long-time hotspot for vacationers from the neighbouring USA – especially for those who are under 21 – the coastal city has a bit of everything you’d want from a holiday and is now being recognised as such on an international scale. Whether you’re happiest lounging on a bone white beach whilst staring into the opal blue ocean, or you prefer to shop ‘til you drop, you’ll find something you love in this magical city.
It’s not all parties and local markets though: history buffs and culture vultures will have their needs satiated by the various remnants of ancient Mayan culture that surround the city, as well as the numerous museums and galleries that make up the cultural sector here (including the unique underwater museum). It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a high-end holiday or a cheap beach getaway, because both can be achieved in this wonderful city: you just have to know where to look.

Weather
The weather in Cancun is consistent all year round, although it can be split into a wet and dry season (May to November and December to April, respectively). Whilst it’s incredibly hot throughout the year, the sea breeze means that the temperature remains at a pleasant level. You should note Cancun has been subject to strong storms in the past (these usually take place in the latter half of the year), and whilst this shouldn’t affect your holiday, it is something to consider. With that being said, the city has excellent storm infrastructure, so even if you do get unlucky, you’ll be safe.
Discover the real Cancun
With such a large number of tourists passing through, certain parts of the city have become quite commercialised and overly focused on servicing this transient community. However, there are still plenty of undiscovered and unique things to do here, as well as authentic experiences to be had with locals and other travellers alike. We’ve got the low down on the best of the real Cancun, so you can leave your holiday feeling like you really got to know this wonderful city.
With so much going on, it can be easy to get swept up in the excitement and end up having a less than stellar experience because you were so eager to get out and see it all. We use our expert, local knowledge to make sure you get the best out of your trip.
Cancun has such a diverse range of activities and attractions that it can be hard to decide what to do. Water sports, great food, and some of the best diving in the world are just a few of the things that make this city so special. It’s not all beach based, either: nearby jungles and ancient ruins add another dimension to this already unforgettable place, and the ever energetic and fun-loving locals turn it from a beautiful city into something truly special.
Authentic Mexican food is some of the best in the world, and once you’ve had a chance to sample it, you’ll kick yourself for thinking it was all burritos and enchiladas. The variety of restaurants in Cancun is comparable to cities much bigger, and covers every price range, from cheap, local hole in the walls to Michelin starred institutions. Because of the high number of tourists, there’s plenty of international cuisine on offer too, so there’s something for everyone.

More of the Mexico
Whether you’re island hopping or plumping for the mainland, Greece is a solid summer holiday all-rounder. Yes, you’ll find all the essentials: beaches, coves, caves and those ever-alluring fishing villages, but Greece will also treat you to some seriously impressive archaeological treasures. Menus may have had a tendency towards the ever-present Greek salad and souvlaki, but the gastronomy scene has always been quietly simmering away in tavernas for decades. Finding them is half the fun.
